Being stylish without doing laundry

Our take

Navigating style while minimizing laundry can feel like a delicate balancing act. Many of us adore the allure of unique, fashionable pieces, yet find ourselves burdened by care instructions that demand air drying or flat laying. As online shopping reveals a predominance of such garments—especially from indie and high-end brands—it raises important questions. How do you maintain a stylish wardrobe without the endless upkeep? Do you risk the wash-and-fold for those air dry items, or rely on the comfort of jeans and t-shirts?

I am thinking about taking my laundry to a wash & fold service from now on, since it is my least favorite chore. The problem with that is it seems that a huge proportion of 'stylish' clothes, or rather clothes that aren't 100% cotton/aren't jeans or t-shirts, say to line dry or dry flat. Everybody (almost everybody) loves jeans and t-shirts, but I imagine most people also like to have more variety than that in their wardrobes.

I do a lot of online window shopping and it seems like almost every indie/direct-to-consumer clothing brand, almost every mainstream 'stylish' brand like Aritzia, Reformation, etc., almost every high-end brand, produces primarily air dry clothing with the exception of their denim, t-shirts, and dry clean only products.

So this all got me thinking. For those of you who have tried to negotiate a minimal laundry lifestyle, how do you negotiate your sense of style with maintenance? Do you figure that brands write air dry just to reduce their liability, and so you take the risk of sending those so-called air dry items to wash & fold? Do you just wear jeans and t-shirts all the time to avoid the problem entirely? Have you found brands that make a wide variety of clothes that can go in the dryer? And is anyone else noticing this tension?

I'm curious, because brands seem completely uninterested in making durable clothing, but I can't be the only one who doesn't appreciate the extra work.
