Royal Expert Reveals Why Some Royal Family Members Might "Continue to Avoid" Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Following Their U.K. Return
Our take

The news of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s impending return to the U.K., bringing their children Archie and Lilibet, has predictably ignited a fresh wave of speculation within the royal sphere. While the initial reports suggested a potential easing of tensions, a recent analysis by a royal expert paints a more nuanced picture, hinting at a continued reluctance from some members of the Royal Family to fully embrace the Sussexes. It’s a delicate dance, fraught with historical context and public perception, and the expert's point – that overt reconciliation could be perceived as “petty or unforgiving” – highlights the intricate web of emotions and expectations at play. This echoes the complexities explored in [Take a Look Inside Princess Diana's Stunning Childhood Home, Althorp House, Before It Closes Its Doors This Summer], where the echoes of the past continue to resonate within the present-day monarchy, reminding us that familial wounds can linger across generations. Understanding the dynamics requires appreciating the weight of tradition and the ever-present scrutiny that accompanies royal life.
The core of the issue seems to revolve around the optics of reconciliation. Public opinion, often swayed by media narratives, can be unforgiving. A hasty or seemingly insincere embrace of Harry and Meghan could be interpreted as a strategic move to quell negative press rather than a genuine desire for familial harmony. This is particularly sensitive given the ongoing tensions surrounding their departure from royal duties and the subsequent interviews where they detailed their experiences within the institution. It’s a high-stakes game of reputation management, where every gesture is analyzed and dissected. Moreover, the expert's observation aligns with a broader trend we've seen – a carefully orchestrated approach to public appearances and communication from the Royal Family, as evidenced by the strategic release of information surrounding Meghan’s new chapter, detailed in [There’s a "Significant" Reason Why Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Are Moving to the U.K. That No One Saw Coming]. This suggests a calculated response to the Sussexes’ return, prioritizing a controlled narrative over spontaneous displays of affection.
Beyond the immediate family dynamics, the return of Harry and Meghan presents a challenge to the monarchy’s ongoing efforts to modernize and redefine its relevance in a rapidly changing world. The couple's embrace of a more independent and globally-focused role has undeniably disrupted traditional royal protocols. While their presence could potentially inject fresh perspectives and attract new audiences, it also risks exacerbating existing divisions within the family and further complicating the institution's image. The entertainment value of royal drama is undeniable, as demonstrated by the continued interest in the cast of [The Cast of 'Spa Weekend' Plays 'How Well Do You Know Your Co-Star?'], but the underlying tensions highlight a deeper struggle to balance tradition with the demands of a contemporary society. The monarchy's ability to navigate this delicate balance will be crucial to its long-term survival.
Ultimately, the question remains: can the Royal Family and the Sussexes find a way to coexist peacefully, allowing both parties to maintain their individual identities while respecting the institution's traditions? The coming months will be pivotal in determining the trajectory of this relationship. Will we witness a gradual thawing of relations, marked by cautious but genuine gestures of reconciliation, or will the underlying tensions continue to simmer beneath the surface, perpetuating a cycle of distance and speculation? The answer, perhaps, lies in understanding that true healing requires not just forgiveness, but also a willingness to acknowledge and address the root causes of the rift.
Earlier this week, it was revealed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are set to move back to the U.K. with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Numerous reports have since discussed the logistics of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's transatlantic move, amidst the news that Meghan might return to acting. But according to one royal expert, some members of the Royal Family might be planning to "avoid" Meghan and Harry for the foreseeable future.
During an appearance on Hello! magazine's "A Right Royal Podcast," the publication's royal editor, Emily Nash, discussed how the Royal Family might be feeling about Meghan and Harry's news.
Nash shared, "I think this is going to be very much one step at a time, and from people I've been speaking to who know [Meghan and Harry], I think they're very much working on the basis of let's get the children settled, let's get started on what we want to do, and then the rest is something to consider down the line."

The royal expert continued, "But crucial to them is the relationship with The King. You can't go any higher than him. And if you have him on side and you are spending time with him, then that does half of the work for you."
However, according to Nash, it's possible that some Royal Family members won't want to spend time with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex upon their return.
"There is a risk, I think, that other members of the family continue to avoid them, it might make them look petty or unforgiving," Nash shared. "Now, there's a lot that would need to be forgiven. Let's be honest about this. And you can absolutely understand why William and Kate might never want to go there."

Nash continued, "You know, their decision to leave affected that whole generation of the Royal Family."
Hopefully Meghan and Harry's move to the U.K. will go as smoothly as possible, in spite of any possible family disagreements.
