The enduring power of a single, perfectly executed trend is undeniable, and the “glazed donut nail” phenomenon perfectly illustrates this. What began as an impromptu creation for Hailey Bieber’s Met Gala look, a seemingly small detail, quickly ballooned into a global obsession. Now, with Zola Ganzorigt’s new OPI collection, "Celeb Glazed Donut Nails, Bottled," this accidental trend solidifies its place in beauty history. It’s a fascinating case study in the intersection of celebrity influence, organic virality, and the ever-evolving landscape of nail artistry. Considering Hailey Bieber's continued role as a style icon, it's fitting that she’s once again at the center of a beauty moment, reaffirming her status as a modern muse, as seen in her recent Miu Miu Fall 2026 campaign [Hailey Bieber Owns the Night for Miu Miu Fall 2026]. This collaboration with OPI isn’t merely about replicating a trend; it represents a capturing of a feeling, a specific aesthetic, and the quiet confidence it exudes.

The genius of the glazed donut nail lies in its understated elegance. It’s a shimmering, pearlescent finish that appears almost otherworldly, yet remains incredibly wearable. It’s a far cry from the maximalist nail art trends that have dominated in the past, reflecting a broader shift towards a more refined and intentional approach to beauty. This aligns perfectly with the current cultural appetite for “quiet luxury,” a movement that prioritizes quality, subtlety, and timelessness. We've observed this sensibility echoed in other areas of beauty and fashion, including Tracee Ellis Ross’ embrace of sleek, yet whimsical hairstyles [Tracee Ellis Ross' Fishtail Braid Is As Sleek As It Is Whimsical] – a testament to the desire for effortless sophistication. The move to bottle this trend with OPI cements its place within the broader beauty conversation, suggesting that the glazed donut effect isn't just a fleeting moment but a lasting aesthetic shift. Further solidifying Bieber's influence, she’s once again partnering with Miu Miu, showcasing her sustained connection to high fashion [Hailey Bieber Reunites With Miu Miu For Its Fall Campaign].

Beyond the immediate appeal of the chrome shades, this collaboration speaks to a significant change in how beauty trends are born and disseminated. Traditionally, trends were dictated by runway shows or magazine editorials. Now, they're increasingly driven by individuals with significant social media followings, blurring the lines between creator and brand. Zola Ganzorigt, a nail artist, has become a household name, demonstrating the power of specialized artistry in a digitally driven world. Her partnership with OPI isn’t just about selling nail polish; it’s about offering access to a specific aesthetic, a curated lifestyle, and a sense of belonging to a community that appreciates understated elegance. The very act of "bottling" a trend, making it accessible to a wider audience, democratizes beauty in a new and interesting way. It’s shifting the power dynamic, allowing individual artistry to directly influence mainstream beauty standards.

The success of the glazed donut nail and its subsequent OPI collection highlights a crucial point: beauty trends are no longer solely about external appearance. They're intertwined with identity, self-expression, and a desire to project a sense of quiet confidence. This isn't about chasing fleeting fads; it's about cultivating a personal aesthetic that feels authentic and empowering. As we move forward, it will be fascinating to observe how other beauty professionals leverage social media to translate their unique artistry into accessible product offerings, and whether we'll see other accidental trends achieve such widespread and lasting influence. Will we witness a surge in collaborations between niche beauty artists and established brands, further blurring the lines between creator and consumer, and redefining what it means to participate in the beauty landscape?

It's funny to think that one of 2022's hottest nail trends was started completely by accident. All it took was Hailey Bieber and her trusty nail artist Zola Ganzorigt. "Glazed donut nails" were an on-a-whim idea Ganzorigt had that would complement Bieber's 2022 Met Gala dress. She decided to top Bieber's otherwise sheer mani with OPI's Chrome Effects powder in Tin Man Can, adding a pearly, ethereal sheen that soon took the internet by storm. Now, even years later, glazed donut nails are here to stay. Sure, they were trendier a few years ago, but Ganzorigt created something elegant that stood the test of time.

Now, she and OPI partnered recently to breathe new life into the glazed donut look by creating four chrome powders that can be paired with a myriad of gel polishes. "This collection was inspired by the nail looks I find myself creating repeatedly," she tells Who What Wear. "For me, chrome has always been a way to transform a manicure and add a new dimension to a look. I love how a manicure can completely transform depending on the colors, finishes, and details you pair together, and I wanted these shades to give people the freedom to play, mix, and make each look their own. Even something as simple as a polka-dot nail can take on a whole new personality when you layer chrome over it."

Chrome shades like Tin Man Can were originally only available to professionals, making them highly coveted. But now, with this collection, everyone can buy them and DIY at home. Ganzorigt told me a little bit more about how she likes to use these shades, and luckily for me, I got my hands on a set as well. For all our thoughts and favorites, keep scrolling.
