I Just Got Back From a Birthday Trip to Miami—Here's Everything I Packed
Our take

The recent trend of curated travel itineraries, particularly those centered around mindful relaxation rather than solely nightlife, speaks volumes about the evolving priorities of the modern consumer. This piece detailing a birthday trip to Miami, framed as a deliberate escape rather than a party destination, resonates with a growing desire for authenticity and intentionality. It’s a departure from the often-overexposed narrative of luxury travel as solely about excess and spectacle. The author’s focus on essential packing for a beach trip aligns perfectly with our audience's appreciation for understated elegance and thoughtful curation – a sensibility we explored in depth in [My Fall Reset Starts With These Surprisingly Chic Wellness Essentials] and continue to champion. This shift isn't merely about destination; it’s about redefining the purpose of travel itself, prioritizing restoration and personal rejuvenation over fleeting trends.
Miami, often synonymous with vibrant nightlife, is being reimagined as a haven for sophisticated leisure. The article's emphasis on beach time and effortless style underscores a broader movement towards quiet luxury, where quality and intention outweigh ostentation. It’s a subtle yet significant recalibration of the aspirational lifestyle, moving away from performative displays of wealth and toward a more grounded appreciation of simple pleasures. This echoes the discerning eye we celebrate in our coverage of luxury brands, as exemplified by our recent [Miu Miu Fall Winter 2026 Unboxing Luxury Shopping Vlog], where the focus remains on craftsmanship, enduring design, and a considered approach to personal style. The author’s packing list, therefore, becomes a symbolic representation of this broader aesthetic shift - a capsule wardrobe built on timeless pieces and versatile silhouettes.
The enduring appeal of a well-executed beach wardrobe lies in its inherent simplicity and adaptability. It's a space where classic silhouettes and high-quality fabrics truly shine, allowing individual style to emerge organically. This isn’t about chasing fleeting trends; it’s about investing in pieces that transcend seasons and embody a sense of effortless chic. Consider the parallels to London's recent resurgence in fashion, a phenomenon we analyzed in [From McQueen to Mulberry, Britpop to Burberry Plaid: This Season, London Is So Back]. Both movements underscore a return to foundational principles – heritage, quality materials, and enduring style – rejecting the ephemeral nature of fast fashion in favor of a more considered, sustainable approach to personal expression. The Miami trip, then, becomes a microcosm of this larger cultural trend.
Ultimately, the article highlights a powerful shift in how we approach leisure and luxury. It’s a move away from the superficial and toward experiences that nourish the soul and reflect a genuine appreciation for quality and intention. As travel continues to evolve, will we see a further blurring of the lines between wellness and luxury, with destinations and itineraries increasingly designed to cater to the holistic needs of the discerning traveler? The emphasis on curated experiences, mindful consumption, and enduring style suggests that the future of aspirational travel lies not in chasing the next big trend, but in cultivating a timeless sense of personal elegance and well-being.
For my birthday this year, I went to Miami. While it has a reputation for being a nightlife destination, I went for quite the opposite: a relaxing beach trip.
After hearing it was vetted by fashion editor Sierra Mayhew, I stayed at Esmé Hotel in Miami Beach. I spent most days at the beach, which is just a short walk away, with chairs and towels provided by the hotel and umbrellas available to rent. La Sandwicherie is nearby to grab quick sandwiches too. On my actual birthday, I went to the Ritz-Carlton pool to lie out, read, and swim. For dinner, I went to one of my all-time favorite restaurants in the world, Sunny's, where I had the agnolotti filled with corn, blue crab, and saffron, along with a chocolate lava cake for dessert.

Shop Fashion
When it comes to packing, I love only bringing a carry-on so I don't have to check a bag if I can. Given how hot it still is in Miami in early September, my mind immediately went to sheer clothing, which can be tricky to wear, but it's easy to layer it over swimwear. I usually stray away from prints, but throwing in some colorful dresses felt right for Miami. And of course, I brought sunglasses—my Chimi Giadas—Havaianas Slim Flip-Flops, and Los Angeles Apparel Jelly Flats.
Shop Beauty
For my beauty bag, I always bring everything in my Leatherology travel case. Inside, I brought staples like Sofie Pavitt Face's cleanser and gel moisturizer. For face sunscreen, I like wearing EltaMD because it never breaks me out, unlike other ones. With 90-degree temperatures, I wanted to bring things that wouldn't just melt off, so I went for lip stain and clear gloss, as well as a lightweight tinted sunscreen if I wanted coverage when I wasn't at the beach.
Shop In-Flight Essentials
On flights, I never travel without over-the-ear headphones after making the mistake one time. I even keep earplugs in my bag just in case. I also bring miscellaneous items like a sleep mask and a cashmere cardigan in case I get cold.
