I'm a Nail Minimalist, But Even I'm Desperate to Try This Chic Nail Art for Summer
Our take

## Our Take: The Gentle Shift Towards Considered Nail Art
The beauty landscape is constantly evolving, a swirling current of trends vying for our attention. Yet, amidst the maximalism and bold statements, a quieter movement is gaining traction: considered embellishment. This recent piece, "I'm a Nail Minimalist, But Even I'm Desperate to Try This Chic Nail Art for Summer," speaks to this perfectly. It’s a subtle validation of the growing desire for elevated detail, even amongst those who typically champion simplicity. We’ve seen this broader trend reflected in fashion as well – consider how [Everyone In NYC Is Wearing This Once-Dated Skirt Trend With Simple Summer Outfits Right Now], demonstrating a preference for polished, understated looks that prioritize quality and intention over fleeting novelty. And it’s not just about fashion; the resurgence of interest in timeless accessories, as highlighted by deals on editor-loved brands in [This Fashion Editor-Loved Brand is On Major Sale in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale—Here's Every Chic Item I'm Buying], further cements this shift towards a more curated and enduring aesthetic. The article’s appeal hinges on the relatability of the author’s perspective – a beauty editor, accustomed to observing trends, admitting a yearning for something slightly more expressive, but still rooted in restraint.
The appeal of this "chic nail art" isn’t about glitter bombs or intricate 3D designs. It’s about a considered placement of color, a subtle shift in texture, a single, perfectly executed detail that elevates a classic manicure. It embodies the ethos of quiet luxury—understated elegance achieved through meticulous attention to detail. This resonates deeply with a consumer increasingly disillusioned by fast fashion and fleeting fads. There’s a growing desire for pieces, be they garments, accessories, or even nail designs, that feel intentional, crafted, and reflective of a personal aesthetic rather than dictated by a viral moment. The article's acknowledgement of this desire feels particularly poignant given the often-overwhelming nature of the beauty industry. It’s a gentle nudge towards mindful consumption, suggesting that even small details can contribute to a sense of personal style and self-expression without succumbing to the pressure of constant reinvention. The pairing of this aesthetic with summer, in particular, speaks to a desire for understated elegance that complements warm weather and breezy silhouettes. Even the choice to contrast this with the typically preferred sheer pink or milky white reveals a yearning for a touch of personality without sacrificing sophistication.
The broader significance of this development lies in its reflection of a larger cultural shift. We are witnessing a move away from performative displays of wealth and status and towards a more authentic and personal expression of style. This isn't about rejecting trends entirely, but rather about curating them with intention and incorporating them into a cohesive personal narrative. It’s about choosing quality over quantity, and valuing craftsmanship and artistry. Consider, too, how even seemingly small details like pedicure colors are being reimagined – [Hold the Red—It Girls Are Pairing Black Sandals With This Chicer, Punchier Pedicure Color] demonstrates this desire for unexpected but refined touches. The nail art trend discussed isn't a radical departure from minimalism, but rather an evolution—a softening of the edges, a subtle infusion of personality. It's a testament to the enduring power of simplicity, enhanced by moments of carefully considered detail.
Ultimately, this trend prompts an interesting question: will the embrace of subtle nail art signify a broader cultural shift towards a more restrained and intentional approach to personal style, or will it simply be another fleeting summer trend? What we *can* say with certainty is that the demand for elevated, understated beauty is undeniable, and it's reshaping the landscape of how we express ourselves through seemingly small details. The future, it seems, favors those who can find beauty in the quiet moments, the considered choices, and the art of understated elegance.
When it comes to nails, I consider myself a nail minimalist. I'm a beauty editor who studies nail trends for a living, but for the most part, you'll usually find a sheer pink or milky white nail colour painted on my nails, no matter the time of the year. However, during summer, I like to push the boat out just a little. And after looking for some nail art inspiration that still appeals to my pared-back aesthetic, my thumbs paused on this stunning aura nail art that came up on my feed, and I've never been more excited to try it.
Pink Aura Nails

Aura nails are similar to ombré nails in that they both blend two nail colours together. Whilst ombre transitions from one colour to another vertically, aura nails blur outwards from the centre of the nail, creating a halo-like glow around your nails. And in this strawberry colourway, it's the perfect way to dabble in something a little different from a neutral manicure for summer whilst keeping things minimalistic. It's like a blush tint for your nails.

For this look, Manicurist Mateja Novakovic used two Manucurist nail colours, including Halo for the base (a milky, shimmering pink) and centred Bloom in the middle of the nail for the bright pop of strawberry. All you have to do is apply your base colour and then use a sponge to dab on your second shade, diffusing it into a seamless transition. Finish with a top coat, and there you have your aura nail art. Easy! Novakovic used the Green Flash LED Nail Kit to cure the polish, which gives a long-lasting, gel-like mani at home. Scroll on for everything you need to recreate the look at home.
