I Tried J.Crew's Highly Anticipated Eckhaus Latta Collection—Shop Before It Sells Out
Our take

The fashion landscape thrives on collaboration, and the recent J.Crew x Eckhaus Latta collection feels particularly resonant within that dynamic. It’s more than just a limited-edition drop; it represents a fascinating intersection of heritage American style and a distinctly modern, Los Angeles-rooted sensibility. Following on from other successful partnerships like Gap and A.P.C. Are Joining Forces for the Ultimate French-Girl Collection of "Essentials", this pairing signals a broader trend of established brands seeking to inject fresh energy and contemporary relevance into their offerings through collaborations with emerging designers. The launch party at The Players in Gramercy Park, following Eckhaus Latta’s recent runway show, cemented the feeling of a carefully curated moment, a deliberate positioning rather than a rushed marketing exercise. The excitement surrounding this collection isn’t simply about novelty; it’s about the potential for Eckhaus Latta’s unique design language to reshape a familiar brand. It’s also a compelling counterpoint to the constant churn of fast fashion—a considered, limited-run offering that encourages intentional purchasing.
Eckhaus Latta’s aesthetic, characterized by its deconstructed silhouettes, playful proportions, and a focus on materiality, stands in intriguing contrast to J.Crew’s traditionally preppy and accessible style. The collection reportedly reimagines J.Crew’s ‘90s vintage pieces, suggesting a focus on timelessness and a deliberate rejection of fleeting trends. This aligns with a growing consumer desire for enduring style over disposable fashion, a sentiment echoed in the rising popularity of pieces like those featured in Sorry, Basic Leggings—These Cute Workout Sets Are So Much Better , where quality and longevity are prioritized. The success of this collection hinges on how effectively J.Crew manages to integrate Eckhaus Latta’s ethos without alienating its core customer base. It’s a delicate balance—preserving J.Crew’s accessible appeal while introducing a dose of unexpected edge. The potential for a wider shift in J.Crew’s overall design direction, influenced by this collaboration, is a key element to watch. The fact that Eckhaus Latta is also making waves with unexpected animal prints, as seen in Not Leopard, Not Zebra: Adidas Just Launched New Sneakers in This Unexpected Animal Print , further underscores a broader movement towards subtle experimentation within established brands.
Beyond the immediate sales figures, the J.Crew x Eckhaus Latta collaboration represents a significant moment in the evolution of brand identity. It highlights the increasing importance of partnerships as a tool for brands to connect with new audiences and signal a willingness to evolve. Consumers are increasingly discerning, seeking brands that reflect their values and offer a sense of authenticity. Collaborations, when executed thoughtfully, can provide a powerful means of demonstrating this commitment. This isn’t simply about slapping a designer’s name on a product; it’s about a genuine fusion of aesthetics and philosophies. The success of this venture will depend on the long-term impact it has on J.Crew’s brand perception and its ability to attract a new generation of customers who appreciate both timeless design and contemporary innovation. It’s a test case for how established brands can successfully navigate the shifting sands of the fashion industry and remain relevant in a landscape dominated by disruptive forces.
Ultimately, the J.Crew x Eckhaus Latta collection asks a compelling question: can a brand known for its classic American style seamlessly integrate the unconventional, almost subversive, spirit of a rising design house? The early indications are promising, but the true measure of its success will be seen in the long term—in the evolution of J.Crew’s design language and its ability to cultivate a loyal following among a new demographic. Will this collaboration be a fleeting moment of trend-driven excitement, or will it mark the beginning of a more enduring and transformative chapter for J.Crew?
After Eckhaus Latta's S/S 27 runway show on Friday, the L.A.-NYC label threw a New York Fashion Week party with J.Crew at The Players in Gramercy Park in honor of its limited-edition collection.
Earlier this year during NYFW in February, the two first collaborated on a reimagined roll-neck that sold out almost immediately. The overwhelming response to the best-selling sweater inspired the brands to work together again on a line of knitwear, outerwear, shirts, pants, and accessories—bringing Mike Eckhaus and Zoe Latta's experimental design approach to J.Crew. The collection is out today, and I already know it's going to sell out quickly.
Eckhaus and Latta shared in a press release, "The inspiration for us was really J.Crew. It is an iconic American brand with a rich heritage. We rummaged through a lot of its catalogs from the '90s as points of reference. That period was our childhood, so our aesthetics and tastes will always be shaped by it." Olympia Gayot, creative director of women's and kids at J.Crew, continued, "We wanted to preserve the experimentation, individuality, and sense of community that make Eckhaus Latta so distinctive, along with the unpretentious New York energy they bring to clothes designed for how people actually live. The catalogs became a major source of inspiration, revealing an era of the brand that already possessed a little downtown tension. Mike and Zoe pulled that spirit forward through their own perspective, creating a collection that feels unmistakably J.Crew but unexpected enough to make you look twice."
In celebration of the 27-piece capsule, assistant shopping editor Josephine Hadjiloucas and I tried a few pieces from the highly anticipated launch. See our reviews and shop it below.

Eckhaus Latta x J.Crew Review
My Thoughts
For me, the star of the show is the Rollneck in Black Multi Marl. As soon as I tried it on, I squealed with excitement, "I'm obsessed!" It's perfect. After not being able to get the very first Rollneck by Eckhaus Latta back in February, I was so happy to see they brought it back in this new colorway. I also love the Paneled Wool-Blend Skirt and balaclava.
Other knits that I think will sell out fast include the Ribbed Rollneck, Marled Cardigan, and Art Sweater. If you love denim, it's one of the things Eckhaus Latta has become known for, and the collection includes the Double-Waisted Chinos, Catalog Jeans, and Relaxed Jeans.
Josephine's Thoughts
"As Audry said, ever since the original Eckhaus Latta x J.Crew Rollneck came out in February and sold out within 24 hours, I've been waiting patiently to get my hands on an Eckhaus Latta x J.Crew creation. Now, it's not just a Rollneck I'll be shopping. There's an entire fall wardrobe in the Eckhaus Latta x J.Crew collection. My favorites are the Apron Dress, Paneled Mini Skirt, and Ribbed Twinset."
