Looking for summer dresses that actually feel good(Requesting Tips)
Our take
Hi everyone, I’m trying to build a more sustainable wardrobe and have been hunting for Bankok dresses that aren’t just cute in photos but actually feel good on the skin. I’m super picky about fabrics. I want natural fibers like cotton, linen, or bamboo, and I really try to avoid hidden polyester blends that make a dress clingy or scratchy. Thrifting has been a lifesaver for me, but it’s not always easy to find exactly what I need. I’ve also been checking small online boutiques and marketplaces like Etsy, Depop. And even some Alibaba suppliers who specialize in custom cotton and linen pieces. One thing I’ve learned is to always double-check the fabric composition and, if possible, ask for extra photos or fabric close-ups before buying. I also keep a “wish folder” on my phone: any dress I like goes in there, then I wait a week before buying new. Usually I can find something secondhand or from a small ethical brand. It’s made me much more intentional about what I add to my wardrobe. So I’m curious, what are your favorite sources for natural-fiber dresses that actually feel good in real life? Any brands, stores, or marketplaces you swear by? Bonus if they ship to the US or have options to check the fabric quality first!

- How do you actually judge fabric quality online before buying?I’ve been trying to shift my wardrobe toward more natural, breathable fabrics lately. But I keep running into the same problem. Everything looks good in photos and descriptions always sound convincing but when it comes to actually understanding fabric quality, I feel like I’m guessing half the time. Some cotton pieces feel amazing and last for years, while others feel thin or lose shape after a few washes. Same with linen. Sometimes it’s structured and durable, other times it feels too fragile for regular wear even when the listing looks identical. I had a similar experience looking at a Bangkok dress style piece recently where the design looked consistent across sellers. But the fabric descriptions varied so much it was hard to know what I’d actually receive. One thing I’ve started doing is asking sellers for fabric tag photos or short clips showing how the fabric moves. It helps a bit for understanding thickness and drape, but not every seller provides it. So I still end up uncertain sometimes. I even browsed Amazon, Ebay and Alibaba to compare how different suppliers describe similar materials. For those of you who shop more consciously, what’s your process for figuring out if something is actually worth adding to your wardrobe before you buy it? submitted by /u/OneIllustrator3522 [link] [comments]
- Switching from polyester to natural fabrics (cotton/linen/hemp) – but where are the good designs? 🇨🇦I’m (36 female) trying to slowly move away from polyester and other synthetic fabrics and switch to more natural options like cotton, linen, hemp etc. for health + comfort reasons. But I’m honestly struggling to find good designs 😅 Most of what I see in these fabrics is either: very basic oversized/boxy or gives a very “boho/hippie” vibe (not really my style) I’m specifically looking for: co-ord sets (shirt + pants / skirt) structured or elegant dresses something that looks polished, not just casual loungewear I’m based in Canada, so ideally brands that ship here or are available locally. From what I’ve seen so far, options feel limited compared to polyester fashion which has way more variety. Has anyone found brands that do modern, stylish silhouettes in natural fabrics? Open to Canadian brands, international shipping, or even smaller labels. Would love recommendations 🙏 submitted by /u/Tarnveer-K [link] [comments]
- Natural fiber formal ware suggestionsI bought an item on Anthropologie for an upcoming wedding. The web description of the product clearly states that it is 100% cotton and 100% ramie (a natural fiber similar to content). The dress came in rush delivery for an upcoming wedding. But the tag on clearly says that the lining is 100% cotton and the shell is 81% lyocell and 19% polyester. I do not like how I paid $220 for a dress that's mostly synthetic and made of plastic. Probably like others in this sub I don't like to wear plastic. I have somewhat sensitive skin. I can't sweat properly in plastic. And of course I like to lower my contribution to our giant piles of plastic waste and the micro plastics that are going to fill my kids brains. I feel perfectly comfortable in cotton, linen, and silk, even more if my item is a hand me down. Im mostly posting to rant but also somewhat asking for natural fiber brands. I really like Muji but the styles are sometimes too big for me. I usually do Hanes for undergarments. I'm happy to hear about more options. Also options for more fancy wear. I will not turn my nose to buying one $800 silk dress and wear it to weddings for the next 10 years. Thank you! submitted by /u/DisembarkEmbargo [link] [comments]
- How to find truly sustainable fashion brands online?Hey everyone, I’ve been thinking a lot about sustainable fashion and wanted to get some honest opinions from people who actually care about it. I feel like it’s still weirdly hard to find brands that are truly sustainable, easy to shop, and also just things people actually want to wear. So I’m curious: What do you look for first when shopping sustainably? What makes you trust a brand vs. think it’s just greenwashing? How do you find sustainable clothes/brands online? Is there a good online platform only for sustainable fashion? Would better search or filters actually help, or is that not really the problem? Would love to hear any thoughts, frustrations, or things you think are missing. Cheers! submitted by /u/AdFun7690 [link] [comments]
