Swimsuits that don’t disintegrate
Our take
Navigating the world of swimsuits can be frustrating, especially for those who prioritize sustainability and durability. As a former competitive swimmer, you’ve experienced firsthand the reliability of high-quality suits that last through daily use. Unfortunately, today's market often falls short, with many brands offering products that disintegrate or wear out after minimal use. Your experiences with YouSwim and Summersalt highlight this challenge, leaving you contemplating a return to tried-and-true options like women’s Speedo suits designed for rigorous performance.
I try to be as sustainable as possible by purchasing items that will last a long time, but I am having trouble when it comes to swimsuits. They’re made so poorly now…I used to do competitive swim as a teenager and a $50 suit could withstand daily usage for a long time, but now my suits wear out after a single season where I go to the pool maybe 10-20 times. I tried YouSwim, which was the worst suit I’ve ever bought and just fell apart, and then Summersalt, which was better but is disintegrating after two seasons of wear. So frustrated with these expensive and horrible suits…maybe I should just go back to women’s Speedo suits meant for competing?
