Toilet paper bin

I am currently in Ecuador.

Who doesnt know the "Dont throw toilet paper in the toilet, but use the bin". I really want to help the system and use the bin.

BUT HOW?

Currently I am sitting on the toilet, barefoot. The bin is behind me and has a lid that only opens when you step on the thing on the bin. So how on earth do I turn when sitting on the toilet, stepping on it? If I touch the lid to throw my paper in, I touch it with my toilet paper - which is digusting. Also toiching it barefoot is disgusting (the room has no carpet, so barefoot is fine for me).
