Three personnel of the Pakistan Coast Guards were killed after armed militants opened fire on a patrol boat in the Arabian Sea near the Pakistan-Iran border on Sunday, according to intelligence and police officials.

The vessel was on a routine maritime patrol in a coastal area when it came under attack. Officials said all three personnel on board were killed in the incident.

The banned separatist group Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for the attack.

As per security sources, this is the first known instance of a Pakistan Coast Guard patrol boat being directly targeted at sea by Baloch insurgents.

The incident took place near Jiwani, a coastal town close to Gwadar, a strategically important port region.

Authorities have launched an investigation, and security presence has been increased along the coastal belt following the attack. Officials have not issued an official statement so far.

Balochistan has remained a centre of long-running insurgency, with separatist groups frequently targeting security forces and infrastructure. Gwadar, home to a deep-sea port linked to China’s Belt and Road Initiative, has seen repeated attacks in recent years.

Separately, violence was also reported in Quetta on the same day, where two members of the Hazara community were shot dead and three others injured in a targeted attack by unidentified gunmen.

Local authorities said the attackers opened fire on civilians, leading to protests and road blockades in the area.

Balochistan’s Home Minister Ziaullah Langove stated that security forces were working to counter terrorism and that those responsible for attacks on civilians would be brought to justice.
