And appreciation post for my Roo 🄰

And appreciation post for my Roo 🄰

When I got Marco, I was told he was a pullet. Back then he was Merna. (Both names from BCS)

My other rooster was mean to my ladies, but Marco always made himself the buffer. Diego ended up being rehomed and slowly but surely Marco has absolutely stepped into the role of protector.

Is he still an absolute scaredy cat? Yes. The wind terrifies him. I am, apparently, terrifying...

But I've watched him slowly change, physically and personality wise. He knows where his ladies are at all times. He's ALWAYS on high alert. He doesn't like when Tendie goes adventuring, he can stop VanillopƩ's frienzies... And I just watched him stare down a squirrel on my camera (yes, my chickens are nanny cammed.) and flap his wings at a sparrow stealing their grub.

I'm saying this because sometimes this group can be full of "absolute." I was told to cull my first rooster, who's now living happily on a free range 2.5 acre farm. He just didn't have the space he needed with me. I was also told Marco was "embarrassing" because he tends to be very easily frightened and to never-ever breed him. But sometimes there's a little more than simply black or white... sometimes there's a grey area that a lot of us tend to over-look.

And plus - I really, really love Marco.

*I know it's *An* appreciation post... spellcheck auto-corrected and I can't fix it :(
