The Quiet Search for the Perfectly Realistic Plastic Fly

There is a particular art to finding a fake fly that whispers rather than shouts. Most novelty insects land in the uncanny valley of glossy rubber, but the matte finishes from certain manufacturers hold a quiet realism that photographs surprisingly well. The scale is the tell, one size too large and the illusion dissolves entirely. For a gag display, restraint is everything. A thoughtful eye for detail transforms a silly prank into something almost believable.
